Tuition

We offer tuition tailored to a student's specific needs and priorities. We take a very individual approach and use specialist equipment and materials. This is in order to:

Develop skills and abilities
Develop strategies to overcome difficulties
Increase confidence and self esteem

Areas we can help to improve include:

Basic and higher literacy skills
Study/revision skills
Numeracy skills
Motor co-ordination skills (e.g. handwriting)
Speech and language
Visual perception problems (e.g. visual memory, visual discrimination)
Auditory perceptual problems (e.g. auditory memory, auditory discrimination, concentration, general listening skills)

Irlen Screening

This assessment is for students who suspect they have a visual perceptual difficulty caused by sensitivity to light. Common signs are text blurring or letters moving or flashing. The use of coloured overlays can have a huge impact on reading accuracy and ease. This assessment also involves testing to see which coloured overlay is most effective at improving reading ability.

We regularly run Dyslexia Advice Days in conjunction with Salisbury Library.

What does tuition involve?

Lessons are an hour in length.
Lessons are usually on a 1:1 basis, but can be in a pair if appropriate.
A programme of work is designed to suit each individual dependant on the student's strengths and weaknesses. All students are assessed either formally or informally by us before a programme of work can be drawn up.
The student follows a highly structured, multi-sensory programme based on small steps to ensure success.
Each individual lesson is planned and recorded in detail.
All materials are provided within the lesson cost, although we may recommend specialist dictionaries or equipment to use at home or at school.
Parents are invited to join part of their children's lessons twice a year to look at work and to discuss progress.
